Carp Fishing DVD - Rig Sequences
On the new Carp Fishing... The Fox Way free DVD you will have seen rig expert Steve Spurgeon talk through some of his all-time favourite rig presentations. Steve really rates these rigs and has had some outstanding catches on them from both the UK and abroad. If you would like to share in this success and learn how to tie the rigs just like Steve then read on as we show you step-by-step how to tie them...
How To Tie Steve's Bottom Bait Rig

Step 1
Above are all of the components that Steve uses to tie this rig.

Step 2
Take a sharp pair of scissors and carefully cut 12ins of Coretex.

Step 3
Using your finger nails strip 4ins of outer coating to expose the braid beneath.

Step 4
Now you will need to tie a small overhand loop in the exposed braid.

Step 5
Thread on a 14mm bottom bait and secure it in place with a boilie stop.

Step 6
Next, thread two 2mm lengths of silicon tube onto the hooklink, like so.

Step 7
Take your SSC hook and carefully slide it through the silicon so you achieve this.

Step 8
You now need to secure the hook in position with a simple knotless knot.

Step 9
Thread a 1.2cm length of shrink tube over the eye of the hook and shrink down.

Step 10
You should now be left with an extended curve to the shank just like this.

Step 11
Add a small blob of Hi-SG putty to the middle of the rig and tie a loop in the end.

Step 12
You have now created a very simple yet highly effective bottom bait rig – awesome!

How To Construct Steve's Pop-up Rig

Step 1
Here are all of the quality items of terminal tackle you will require to tie Steve’s pop-up rig.

Step 2
Cut 10ins of Coretex and attach it to your hook with a knotless knot leaving a Hair like so.

Step 3
Next, you will need to thread an Oval Rig Ring onto the Hair, as illustrated above.

Step 4
Steve then ties a simple overhand knot in the Hair about ½cm from the end, like so.

Step 5
Cut a 1.5cm length of shrink tube and then thread it onto the hooklink but not over the eye yet.

Step 6
Take the Hair and pass it up inside the shrink tube as Steve illustrates in the above picture.

Step 7
Create a small D like so and then position the shrink tube over the eye of the hook, just like this.

Step 8
Hold the rig over a steaming kettle and carefully shrink the tubing down to secure the D in place.

Step 9
The overhand knot is now secured inside the shrink tube and will prevent the D from losing its shape.

Step 10
A small figure-of-eight loop is then tied in the end of the rig for use with quick change devices.

Step 11
Add a small blob of Hi-SG putty to the centre of the rig to help keep it pinned down to the lakebed.

Step 12
Take your favoured pop-up and tie it onto the Oval Rig Ring with some bait floss.

Step 13
Trim up the tag ends and then carefully blob them with a lighter and your bait will be secured.

Step 14
You will then need to place a No.1 split shot on the exposed braid just below the shrink tube.

Step 15
You should now have created a pop-up rig that looks just like this little beauty!

How To Tie The Weighted Hook Rig

Step 1
Above are all of the components needed to tie this effective little rig of Steve’s.

Step 2
Cut 12ins of Coretex, strip 4ins of coating and tie an overhand loop in the braid.

Step 3
Thread two grains of buoyant plastic corn onto the loop and secure with a stop.

Step 4
Cut a 5mm length of 0.75mm silicon and thread it on the length of Coretex, like so.

Step 5
Carefully slide the point of the hook through the silicon, just as shown above

Step 6
Next, slide the hook and silicon down the rig so the tubing sits opposite the point.

Step 7
You will then need to secure the hook in place with a simple knotless knot.

Step 8
Cut a 1.5cm length of shrink tube and thread it into this position over the eye of the hook.

Step 9
Cut a small section of lead wire that is the same length as the shrink tube above the eye.

Step 10
Now place the lead wire inside the shrink tube as illustrated in the picture above.

Step 11
Carefully, shrink the tubing down over a steaming kettle and create the angle shown.

Step 12
Next place a No.4 Kwik Change Pop-up Weight onto a length of the tubing supplied in the kit.

Step 13
Thread the hook through the tubing just above the weight and maneuver it to this position.

Step 14
Trim away the excess tubing above the hook so you are left with what is shown in this picture.

Step 15
Add a couple of blobs of tungsten putty along the hooklink and the weighted hook rig is complete.
