Popping up your deadbait makes a deadly presentation, especially in weedy swims or where the bottom is covered with mud and debris.
Mick's technique has evolved over years of trial and error finally arriving as a simple to use and flexible system. All you need to do is make a simple pop up link that can fit onto your trace.
What You Will Need
- 30lb carboflex wire and crimps
- Tapered crimp sleeves
- Crimping pliers
- Fox sea lead clip (SAC014)
|
Making The Link
Using Fox components as listed above, crimp a small loop at one
end of a length of 30 lb bs Carboflex wire and a Fox lead clip at the
other. Cover the clip crimp with a tapered crimp sleeve. (finished length approx 6"). It's very simple to make.
Fitting The Link Refer to images
Slip the link over the trebles and secure on the trace within a Fox tapered crimp sleeve. It will slide up and down and be completely adjustable. Make up a few of different lengths to accommodate different baits. 6" is my standard length. A closed lip needle is useful for pulling the link into the sleeve. |
Mounting The Deadbait Refer to images
When mounting the bait, pull the pop up link in through the vent and out through the mouth or open end of a half bait using forceps. Then clip on your buoyancy material, in this case a large Fox Floater Stick. Use the forceps to gouge out a hole to accept the stick first.
Push the Floater Stick inside the bait.
Tidy up the Pop Up Link and sleeve to a neat finish. |
Other Methods Refer to images
Thats just one way of popping up. Fox provide all the components you will need for a variety of different baits like half baits and smaller baits. There is endless scope for the imaginitive angler. Experiment!
Bait poppers.
Single poppers wired up for external use on mouth of bait. Useful presentation for small baits. Others are wired together for pulling into half baits. Refer to images
