The new style float/braid stops (PAC 002) will grip tightly on mono and braided lines. Because they are designed to grip tightly it is important to use a lubricant when first applying to main line or when adjusting. This minimises line damage due to friction and ensures long life to both line and stop.
Just thread your main line through the wire loop and slide the rubber stop up the line.
Although water will allow slippage whilst applying stops and making adjustments, the ideal lubricant is washing up liquid.
Once the stop is located in position, the washing up liquid disperses and the stop locks up very tightly. |
Make a lubricant dispenser.
First acquire a small plastic container with a lid. I use the
small plastic box that the Fox 2XS hooks are packaged in.
Cut a small piece of foam to fit.
Apply a few squirts of washing up liquid to the foam and you are ready to go.
Just dab a little around the rig stop and about a foot of the line where the adjustment is to be made and the stop will slide very easily. |
The stops may slide well on some coated braids without lubrication. 15 lb mono benefits greatly from lubrication. By taking a little care, your lines and stops will last for ages.
Your washing up liquid will also be very useful for degreasing mono lines to help them to sink. |
Useful Tip
If you use my leger rig with the large bore run ring (see Legered Deadbait Rig article) you will not have to remove your rig stop as the ring runs smoothly over it. When reverting to a float rig, the stop is already in position, saving time and money! |
