Fox supply a comprehensive range of tools to help with rig making, unhooking and for getting you out of tricky situations when hooks are difficult to remove.
Wire Cutters (Trace Blades)
These wire cutters have a multitude of uses. Perfect for cutting wire when trace making or for cutting braid or mono when tacking up.
You can also use them for trimming deadbaits down to size or for cutting deadbaits into sections or half baits.
Always keep them in your pocket for cutting up traces that are badly snagged in the landing net and likely to damage a struggling fish if they are not quickly removed. |
Forceps
The ideal tool for removing hooks when live or deabaiting and also the hooks on some smaller lures. Extremely useful in rig making for the angler who prefers to 'spin' his trace connections and for pulling 'pop up' links through when making up buoyant baits.
Always have them ready in your pocket rather than start looking for them when you land a fish. Most fish can be quickly unhooked at the waters edge and slipped back immediately avoiding unnecessary handling.
Always carry a spare pair of forceps as you cannot carry on fishing if you should loose them. |
Long Nosed Pliers
Anglers using lures with bigger hooks will benefit considerably by using long nosed pliers for unhooking rather than forceps. You simply cannot get a firm enough grip with forceps. These pliers do the job quickly and efficiently. |
Side Cutters
Lure anglers will often come across situations where the pike is hooked in such a way that to attempt to remove hooks could cause damage, close to gills for example.
These side cutters are incredibly powerful and will snip through the largest of hooks with ease. Better to cut up a hook and replace it than damage the fish. Mainly used by lure anglers but bait anglers will find that they are useful from time to time too and in particular when all three points of a treble have penetrated and are impossible to turn easily. |
