Step by Step Micron Alarm Instructions Part 1
Un-Known Author!
Setting up the MK 2 Micron P, PS and PSR Bite Alarms

The Mk I versions have proven to be highly popular amongst pike anglers and has dominated the market for over ten years. That’s a long time and despite changes along the way to the electronics to make them more reliable, we decided it was time to move forward and produce an even better alarm.

Certainly it was time to bring in new styling and make them more reliable as there are now much more efficient electronic components available for us to build into new models. Above all though, we listened out for the features that our customers wanted. With braided line becoming the norm rather than the exception amongst pike anglers, it was clear that a different line clip was needed. When using braided lines and under certain setting up conditions, the braid would stick in the clip occasionally and ’drop backs’ were not as clear as they need to be.
Some customers liked the stiff arm models that used to be available and are used in some ‘home made’ alarms. Although we were confident that a correctly set up cable arm, as on the Mk I’s, was good enough, we wanted to aim for perfection and looked into using a stiff arm.

After much trial and over two seasons of testing and development, we were satisfied that the Micron Mk 2’s were our best pike alarms yet. We restyled, used latest digital technology, increased volume, added tone control on some models and even added a remote version (PSR) that many were asking for. The stiff arm was incorporated to the PS and PSR models and we fitted all models with an adjustable line gate similar to that on our MK 2 swinger. We even fitted selectable colour LED’s on all models for multi rod users.

After all this development we want you to get the very best from using these products. On the bank I see them set up in so many varied ways and here and there, some anglers are not getting the full benefit from them by incorrect setting. Here’s a basic set up list and when followed strictly, the alarms should perform perfectly showing forward runs and drop back runs with great efficiency.
Micron PS and PSR
1. After casting out, place rod on two rests, ideally with rod parallel to ground or tip slightly lower. The alarm forms the back rest and the stiff arm is clipped to the rear rest.

2. Adjust the position of the rod until the alarm sight head is underneath the reel spool. Open the bale arm.

3. Put the line in the line gate and tighten the line to the rig. Use the free running mechanism or clutch on the reel to adjust.
4. With the sight head positioned approx an inch under the spool, the stiff arm should be horizontal or slightly higher. You will have to adjust the position of the clip on the back rest to make any fine adjustment to arrive at the ideal arm position.

Note: The alarm is operated when the stiff arm drops below the horizontal. Set as fine as possible so that a ‘drop back’ type of run registers quickly.
